Townhall reports, Washington, DC’s city council voted on Tuesday to move ahead with the overhaul of the capital’s criminal code despite opposition from the mayor and police chief. According to DCist, it requires a jury trial for anyone charged with a misdemeanor, eliminates all mandatory minimum sentences except for first-degree murder, and grants early release to people serving prison sentences.
