Top news right now: FTX founder and Democrat super donor, Sam Bankman-Fried, has asked a federal court in Manhattan to dismiss most of the criminal charges against him, including fraud, conspiracy, campaign finance law violations, and money laundering. Bankman-Fried’s lawyers argued that the charges failed to state an offense. In November 2022, his cryptocurrency exchange, FTX, collapsed, claiming it faced an $8 billion shortfall and requiring emergency funding. The FTX founder’s hedge fund, Alameda Research, also shut down, and the exchange filed for bankruptcy. Bankman-Fried was later arrested in the Bahamas in December and pleaded not guilty to charges of wire fraud and money laundering. The disgraced FTX founder will face trial in October.
